Summit Rinjani Trekking Itinerary: 4 Days, 3 Nights Adventure
Trekking Highlights:
- Start your journey bright and early, with a 6:00 AM breakfast at the base camp in Senaru. After fueling up, you will be transferred to Sembalun Village (approx. 45-60 minutes by car), the starting point for your adventure. Here, you’ll check in at the Rinjani Information Center (RIC) at 1,051 meters, officially beginning your trek.
- Your first trek will lead you through lush savanna landscapes towards the first checkpoint, POS 1 (Pos Pemantauan) at 1,300 meters. The initial 2-hour hike is a gentle warm-up as you get acclimatized to the terrain. After a brief 10-minute rest, continue on to POS 2 (Pos Tengengean) at 1,500 meters, a 1-hour walk away.
- As you proceed, the landscape becomes more rugged, and after another 1-hour walk, you’ll reach POS 3 (Pada Balong) at 1,800 meters. Lunch will be served here, and you’ll enjoy a well-deserved 2-hour rest to refuel before tackling the final, more challenging ascent.
- The last stretch of the day involves a 3-hour uphill climb to reach the Crater Rim of Sembalun at 2,639 meters. This part of the trek is more strenuous, but your efforts will be rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding valleys and craters.
- Set up camp at Plawangan Sembalun Crater Rim and enjoy a beautiful sunset over the volcanic landscape. This is the perfect spot to relax and soak in the views, knowing that tomorrow brings an early morning summit attempt.

Day 2: Summit rinjani Ascent & Segara Anak Lake
- Distance: 5 km to the summit + 3.4 km to Segara Anak Lake
- Duration: 6-7 hours to summit; 3-4 hours to lake
- Difficulty: Very Difficult
- Highest Point: 3,726m (Summit of Mount Rinjani)
- Altitude Gain: +1,087 meters
Trekking Highlights:
Your second day begins before dawn, with an early wake-up at 2:30 AM. Enjoy a light breakfast and prepare for your summit climb. The trek to the summit is challenging, with steep inclines and rocky terrain, but the reward is worth every step.
The 3-hour and 20-minute climb will bring you to the summit of Mount Rinjani at 3,726 meters. At the top, you’ll be treated to spectacular panoramic views of Lombok, Bali, Sumbawa, and the Segara Anak Lake nestled in the caldera below. The sunrise from the summit is an unforgettable experience, with the first light illuminating the surrounding mountains and valleys.
After taking in the views and capturing the moment, begin your descent back down to the Crater Rim, where a hearty breakfast awaits.
Next, trek down to Segara Anak Lake, located at an altitude of 2,000 meters. This descent is approximately 3.4 km and will take about 3-4 hours. As you approach the lake, you’ll notice the stunning contrast of the serene waters against the rugged, volcanic landscape.
Upon arrival at the lake, enjoy a relaxing dip in the hot springs nearby, rejuvenating your muscles after the steep climb. You will have a chance to relax, have lunch by the lake, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
Set up camp by the lake for the night. Dinner will be served, and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings before resting for the night.

Day 3: Segara Anak Lake to Crater Rim Senaru (2,641m)

- Duration: 3-4 hours
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Highest Point: 2,641m (Senaru Crater Rim)

Trekking Highlights:
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast by the lake, followed by some leisurely time soaking in the hot springs and enjoying the lake. Afterward, begin your trek to Crater Rim Senaru, located at 2,641 meters. This part of the hike is moderate in difficulty and will take about 3-4 hours to complete.
As you ascend, enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding islands, including Bali’s Mount Agung, visible on clear days. Upon reaching the Senaru Crater Rim, you’ll have the perfect vantage point for watching the sunset over the landscape, with the glowing peaks of the mountains and the distant Mount Agung in Bali.
Set up camp at the Senaru Crater Rim, where you’ll spend your final night on the mountain. Enjoy a delicious dinner and get ready for your last day of trekking tomorrow.

Day 4: Descent to Senaru Village

- Difficulty: Moderate
- Altitude Loss: -2,040 meters
Trekking Highlights:
After an early breakfast and an unforgettable sunrise over the mountain, it’s time to descend back to Senaru Village. The journey down will take approximately 5-6 hours, covering a distance of 9.2 km. The path is mostly downhill, passing through tropical forests and lush vegetation.
As you trek through the dense forest, take in the sounds of nature and the cool breeze. This part of the journey is easier on the legs after the previous days of climbing, but it still requires focus and steady steps.
Along the way, lunch will be provided, either at POS 2 or an extra stop, depending on the group’s pace.
Arrive at the Senaru Trekking Centre around 1:00 PM, where you’ll be greeted by your transport and transferred to your next destination (e.g., Bangsal Harbor, Senggigi, or Mataram).
