Difficulty Level

  • The 4-day trek is classified as challenging, suitable for trekkers with good physical fitness and some prior hiking experience.
  • You will face steep ascents, long walking hours, and high-altitude conditions — especially during the summit climb, where the terrain is sandy and the air is thin.
  • However, the extra day to rest and camp by Segara Anak Lake makes this route more balanced and comfortable than the shorter 2- or 3-day programs.
  • It allows trekkers to recover properly before the next ascent, making the overall experience smoother and more enjoyable.
  • While not easy, this program is the best choice for beginners who are well-prepared.
  • If you’re new to mountain trekking but exercise regularly or train in advance (such as hiking, jogging, or stair climbing 2–3 times a week), you can complete this trek successfully with the guidance of our professional Green Rinjani team.

In summary:

  • Beginners can join, but training and preparation are essential.
  • Rinjani is not a walk in the park — the long distances, altitude, and weather can be demanding.
  • With proper fitness, mindset, and support from our guides and porters, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful trekking experiences in Southeast Asia.

  • Among these, one hill stands out: “Bukit Penyesalan” (The Hill of Regret) — the seventh and final hill.
  • t earns its name because many trekkers, exhausted from the climb, start wondering if the top will ever come.
  • Yet, as soon as you reach it, the view and sense of achievement make every step worth it.
  • The terrain alternates between dusty and rocky paths, with short flat ridges for rest.

Trekking summit 4 days

Day 2 – Summit (3,726 m) → Segara Anak Lake (2,000 m)

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided on the mountain

  • This is the highlight of your Rinjani adventure — the day you stand on Lombok’s highest point and descend into the heart of its great volcanic crater. It’s a long, challenging, yet deeply rewarding day that combines achievement, scenery, and serenity.
  • 02:00–02:30 AM – Wake Up for the Summit Climb
Your guide will wake you before dawn for a light breakfast — typically biscuits, bananas, and hot tea or coffee.
  • The air temperature can drop to 0–5°C, so wear warm clothing, gloves, and a windproof jacket.
  • After a short warm-up, begin your 3-hour trek to Mount Rinjani’s summit (3,726 m).
  • 02:30–05:30 AM – Summit Ascent
  • The first section is a gradual uphill path of volcanic gravel and sand.
  • As you climb higher, the trail becomes steeper and more demanding — each step forward often slides slightly backward due to the soft volcanic soil.
  • This section tests both stamina and mental focus.
At dawn, the horizon glows orange and gold — a sign you’re nearing the top.

05:30–06:00 AM – Reach the Summit of Mount Rinjani (3,726 m)

  • Congratulations — you’ve conquered Lombok’s sacred peak!
  • From the top, you’ll enjoy a 360° panoramic sunrise view of Lombok Island, Mount Agung in Bali, Mount Tambora in Sumbawa, and the stunning Segara Anak Lake below.
  • This is one of the most breathtaking sunrise moments in Indonesia — perfect for photos and quiet reflection before beginning your descent.
  • 06:30–08:00 AM – Descend Back to Crater Rim Camp (2,639 m)
  • The return trip to camp is faster but slippery.
Walk slowly and carefully — the volcanic sand and loose gravel make footing unstable.
  • Back at camp, your porters will serve a hot breakfast (pancakes, toast, eggs, or noodles) with coffee or tea.
  • Take time to rest, recharge, and repack before continuing your journey to the lake.

09:30 AM – Begin Descent to Segara Anak Lake (2,000 m)

  • After breakfast and a short break, begin your descent from Plawangan Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 m) toward Segara Anak Lake — a journey that takes about 3–4 hours.
  • This is one of the most technical and hazardous trails on the mountain.
  • The path descends sharply over rocky volcanic ridges, loose gravel, and narrow cliffside sections that require extra caution.
  • The trail also passes steep, exposed slopes where footing can be unstable, especially in dry conditions.
  • Your Green Rinjani guide will lead you carefully through this area, maintaining a slow and safe pace.
  • It’s important to stay focused — rushing can lead to slips or minor injuries, as this section has seen many accidents in the past.
  • Despite the challenge, the views are magnificent — as you descend, you’ll see Segara Anak Lake shimmering below, surrounded by towering crater walls and the active Mount Baru Jari volcano.

12:30 PM – Arrive at Segara Anak Lake (2,000 m)

  • Welcome to Rinjani’s natural heart — the turquoise Segara Anak Lake, formed inside the massive caldera.
Your porters will prepare lunch while you rest by the lakeshore and take in the scenery.
  • Steam often rises from the crater walls, adding to the mystical atmosphere of this sacred spot.
  • The temperature here is mild (around 18–22°C), offering a refreshing change after the cold summit morning.
  • 02:00 PM – Relax at the Natural Hot Springs (100 meters from the lake)
  • After lunch, take a short 5-minute walk to the natural hot springs, located on the lake’s edge.
  • The warm mineral water is rich in sulfur and is believed by locals to have healing properties — perfect for easing sore muscles and restoring energy.
  • Enjoy a relaxing soak, take photos, or simply unwind in this tranquil setting surrounded by cliffs and forest.

06:30 PM – Dinner and Overnight at Segara Anak Lake Camp

  • As evening falls, your porters will serve dinner by the lakeside — a warm and freshly cooked meal.
  • Enjoy your meal while watching the reflection of the moon and stars over the lake.
  • Tonight’s temperature is mild (12–15°C), allowing for a comfortable night’s rest.
Listen to the calming sounds of nature before sleeping under Rinjani’s starlit sky.

  • Along the way, you’ll encounter iron ladders installed in particularly vertical sections — these metal steps provide safer passage through sharp rocky slopes.
  • Although sturdy, the ladders are steep and require full concentration and both hands for balance.
  • Your Green Rinjani guide will assist you closely, ensuring that you maintain a safe, steady pace with rest stops every 30–45 minutes.
  • Some areas are narrow and slightly exposed to the open crater wall, so guests are advised to stay alert and follow their guide’s instructions carefully.
  • This part of the trek is one of the most physically demanding of the descent route, but also one of the most visually striking — with sweeping views of Segara Anak Lake below and Mount Baru Jari framed by the high crater walls.

  • After 3–4 hours of climbing, you’ll reach the Senaru Crater Rim — your final campsite of the trek.

Additional hot drinks (coffee, tea, chocolate) and soft drinks are provided with meals.
All bottles are brought back down as part of our eco-policy.

What kind of food is served?
All meals are freshly cooked and generous — typically including rice, noodles, vegetables, chicken, eggs, fruits, and hot drinks.
Vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free menus are available upon request.

What are the camping conditions?
Green Rinjani provides two service options to suit your preference:
Deluxe Service (Private Trip)

  • Designed for couples, families, or trekkers who value comfort and privacy.
    Includes:
  • Private guide, cook, and porters
  • Premium Hillman Turtle 4 tent
  • 7–8 cm thick mattress
  • Private toilet tent and dining setup
  • Upgraded menu with fresh fruit and soft drinks
  • Private transport and flexible schedule

Standard Service (Group Trip)
Ideal for solo or budget travelers who enjoy small-group experiences.
Includes:

  • Maximum 6 trekkers per guide
  • Local Dhaulagiri tent with 5 cm mattress
  • Shared toilet tent and dining area
  • 1 porter per guest and licensed guide team
  • Shared group transport

Green Rinjani never merges large groups or outsources operations — every trek is managed directly by our team.

Why does Green Rinjani limit group size?

Smaller groups ensure:

  • Better safety and personal attention
  • More efficient waste management
  • A quieter, eco-friendly trekking experience

Ratio:

  1. 1 guide per 4 trekkers (Deluxe)
  2. 1 guide + 1 assistant per 6 trekkers (Standard)
  3. 1 personal porter per guest

How many hours do we walk each day?

  • Day 1: 6–7 hours (to Sembalun Rim)
  • Day 2: 8–9 hours (summit & descent to lake)
  • Day 3: 3–4 hours (lake to Senaru Rim)
  • Day 4: 5–6 hours (descent to Senaru)
  • Total distance: ~35–40 km

Are toilets and showers available on the mountain?

Private toilet tents are provided for each group.
There are no showers, but you can refresh and bathe at the natural hot springs near Segara Anak Lake — one of the highlights of this 4-day trek.

What is the temperature like?

  • Sembalun Base: 20–28°C
  • Crater Rims: 8–12°C
  • Summit (early morning): 0–5°C
  • Warm layers (jacket, gloves, beanie) are essential.

Are guides and porters trained?

  • Yes — all Green Rinjani staff are licensed by TNGR and trained in:
  • First aid and mountain rescue
  • English communication
  • Guest care and hospitality
  • Eco-trekking and waste management
  • All are local residents from Senaru and Sembalun, receiving fair wages and welfare support.

Is insurance included?
Yes — all Green Rinjani packages include basic trekking insurance, covering accident compensation and emergency evacuation.
For wider protection (flight or medical), we recommend personal travel insurance covering trekking above 3,000 m.

What if the weather turns bad?
If light rain occurs, trekking continues safely.
If Mount Rinjani National Park closes due to extreme weather or volcanic activity, the trek will be rescheduled to another available date.
Refunds are not possible once permits are issued, but Green Rinjani assists with all rescheduling arrangements.

Can children or older trekkers join?
The 4D3N program is suitable for trekkers aged 12 years and above in good physical condition.
For families or older trekkers seeking a lighter challenge, we recommend the 2D1N Senaru Crater Rim Trek.

What is the best route for a full Rinjani experience?

For a complete and comfortable journey:

  • Sembalun–Senaru (4D3N): The full circuit — summit, lake, and both crater rims.
  • Sembalun–Torean (3D2N): Easier descent with scenic valley views.
  • Senaru–Torean (3D2N): No summit, focused on rainforest and lake scenery.

Important thing to know:

Please read carefully, all about information you need to know to help you prepare your trip better.

  1. Mount Rinjani Trekking Quota: Why Early Booking is Essential
Mount Rinjani is one of the most iconic trekking destinations in the world. To protect the mountain’s natural beauty and ensure a safe experience, the National Park limits the number of climbers each day. This system is called the trekking quota, and it’s divided into two categories:
  2. For international travelers, there are 240 quota slots each day. These slots are managed by trekking organizers like GREEN RINJANI to ensure proper permits, guides, and safety arrangements. Because demand is high — especially during peak season (July–September) — these slots fill up fast.
  3. Booking early (1–2 months in advance) guarantees your spot, saves last-minute stress, and allows you to secure your preferred trekking date and route.
  4. Local / Public Quota — 160 slots per day
For Indonesian citizens or domestic trekkers, 160 slots are available daily. These are reserved for climbers registering independently at the Rinjani Trekking Centre in Senaru or Sembalun. Local quotas tend to fill quickly during busy periods, so early planning is still highly recommended.

Why This Matters for You Without a secured quota slot, trekking Mount Rinjani is not allowed. This is why early booking is essential — especially for foreign visitors who depend on agency-arranged quotas.

By booking with Green Rinjani:

  • You lock in your foreign quota slot
  • You secure experienced guides and porters
  • All permits, transport, camping equipment, and meals are arranged
  • You avoid last-minute surprises and ensure a smooth, memorable trekking experience
