Here are the key steps climbers must follow:

1. Check the Entrance Ticket quota:

Regulations limit the number of daily trekkers to 240 people for three climbing routes: Sembalun, Senaru, and Torean. To avoid one-sidedness and tour operator cancellation, Please ask the tour operator about the availability of entrance tickets on the specified date.

You can check online by downloading the E-Rinjani App via Playstore on Android. If the tickets are fully booked, you will not be able to climb Rinjani.

2 . Registration:

For ticket registration, visit the website or download it from the Play Store. For your comfort, contact us. Every booking you made with Green Rinjani included an Entry ticket to Mount Rinjani National Park.

3. Medical Check-up:

A health certificate is required at least 24 hours before climbing Mount Rinjani. It will be checked at the entrance, and if you do not have one, you will be asked to return and undergo a health check.

You should have a health certificate the day before the hike and bring it with you. If you are in Senaru village and need a Medical check-up, you can come to Green Rinjani office, where the doctor handles it.

4. Tour operator :

For your trekking activities, we recommend hiring a local, licensed tour organizer. These organizers have official authorization from the Gunung Rinjani National Park Office.

Benefits of using a Local Service:

  • Assistance with National Park ticket bookings.
  • Ease in logistics preparation.
  • They are experienced and very familiar with the Mount Rinjani route.
  • Local people continually participate in keeping Mount Rinjani safe and clean.

Always choose a local tour operator wisely. Enjoy your trekking and invite yourself to participate in protecting Mount Rinjani.

5. Environmental Regulations:

Mount Rinjani, a stunning and ecologically significant destination, is designated as a protected area. As such, climbers and trekkers must adhere to specific environmental regulations to preserve their natural beauty and biodiversity.

Key guidelines include proper waste management practices. All climbers must ensure they take all trash and waste back with them upon completing their trek. This helps keep the trails clean and minimizes the environmental impact on the local wildlife and native vegetation.

In an important step towards sustainability, the national park management will introduce a zero-waste climbing initiative starting in 2025. This program aims to eliminate waste generation during climbs and promote environmentally responsible practices among visitors.

7. Preparing for the Rinjani Trek: Essential Training Tips

Climbing Mount Rinjani is a challenging yet rewarding experience, attracting trekkers from all over the world. Make sure you are safe. Physical and mental preparation is highly recommended. Here’s everything you need to know about training for the Rinjani trek:

1. Physical exercise.

Climbing Mount Rinjani involves steep ascents, high altitudes, and long days of hiking—sometimes for up to 10–12 hours per day. This makes preparation essential. Here are a few reasons why training is crucial:

Increase Stamina: You’ll need to maintain energy throughout the long hike, so endurance is key. Without proper preparation, the physical toll of continuous uphill hiking could be overwhelming.

Build Leg Strength: Much of the trek involves walking on uneven, rocky, and steep terrain. Having strong leg muscles will help you navigate this with less fatigue.

Improve Cardio Fitness: The air at high altitudes has lower oxygen levels, which places additional strain on your heart and lungs. Cardiovascular fitness is necessary to cope with strenuous climbs and thin air.

Prevent Injuries: Proper training helps strengthen the muscles and joints that will bear the brunt of the load, reducing the risk of injuries during the trek.

2. What to Train: Key Areas to Focus On

For a successful Mount Rinjani trek, you must focus on building strength, stamina, and flexibility. Here’s a breakdown of the key areas to work on:
A. Cardiovascular Endurance

Rinjani’s terrain demands long hours of walking, often with steep uphill sections, which makes cardiovascular conditioning vital.

What to Do:

  • Running: Regular running sessions, focusing on long-distance running (at least 3–5 miles per session), will help increase your stamina.
  • Hiking: If possible, practice on trails with elevation to mimic the conditions of the trek.
  • Cycling or Swimming: These exercises are great for building cardiovascular fitness with lower joint impact.

B. Leg and Lower Body Strength

The constant ascents on Mount Rinjani will challenge your legs, especially the quads, hamstrings, calves, and glutes. Strengthening these muscles will make the climb much easier.

What to Do:

  • Stair Climbing: This is one of the best exercises to mimic the kind of uphill climbing you’ll face. Use a stair machine at the gym or, even better, find a staircase in your area and climb it for 30–60 minutes.
  • Lunges: Walking lunges, squats, and step-ups will help build leg strength.
  • Hill Walking: If you have access to a hill, practice walking up and down. The gradient should be steep enough to build strength.

C. Core Stability and Balance

Your core plays a critical role in maintaining balance and posture during your hike, especially on uneven and rocky paths.

What to Do:

  • Planks: Plank exercises strengthen the core muscles, improving posture and stability.
  • Leg Raises: These help to build both core and leg strength simultaneously.
  • Balance Exercises: Try standing on one leg or using a balance board to improve your overall balance.

D. Flexibility

Stretching your muscles to maintain flexibility is important to avoid injury and muscle tightness, particularly when hiking on tough terrain.

What to Do:

  • Yoga: Yoga or dynamic stretching routines can help improve flexibility in your legs, back, and arms.
  • Stretching: Stretch your quads, hamstrings, calves, and hip flexors regularly. This will prevent muscle stiffness and cramps.

3. Simulating Trek Conditions in Your Training

While training at a gym or on flat terrain is useful, it’s crucial to mimic the conditions of the Rinjani trek as closely as possible.

A. Hike with a Backpack

  • Why It’s Important: On your trek, you’ll carry a backpack containing your essentials (water, food, clothing, etc.). Training with a weighted backpack helps you get used to carrying weight, which will make the trek more manageable.
  • What to Do: Gradually increase the weight of your backpack during your hikes. Start with a light load and increase it as you build strength. Aim for about 10–15% of your body weight.

B. Train in Different Weather Conditions

Why It’s Important: Rinjani’s weather can change rapidly, and you may face conditions ranging from hot days to cold nights and unpredictable rainfall.

What to Do: If you live in a temperate climate, try training in different weather conditions, such as walking in the rain or practicing in colder environments.

C. Elevation Training (if possible)

Why It’s Important: Mount Rinjani stands at 3,726 meters (12,224 feet), and you’ll be trekking at high altitudes. Training at altitude, or simulating it, can help your body acclimatize.

What to Do: If you live near a mountain or high-altitude area, consider trekking or hiking at elevation. Alternatively, some people use elevation masks to simulate the effect of higher altitudes during workouts.

4. Practice Mental Toughness

While physical fitness is necessary, mental endurance is just as essential for a successful Rinjani climb. Trekking for hours, often on steep inclines, can be mentally taxing.

What to Do:

  • Push Through Fatigue: During your training hikes, occasionally push yourself to go a little further or harder than usual.
  • Meditation: Practicing mindfulness or meditation helps maintain a positive mindset, especially when you’re fatigued on the trail.
  • Visualization: Visualizing yourself reaching the summit can help build your mental resilience for the trek.

5. Other Important Tips

  • Altitude Acclimatization: Arrive at Lombok at least a day or two before your trek to allow your body to adjust to the altitude and climate. This helps reduce the chances of altitude sickness.
  • Hydration and Nutrition: Train your body to stay hydrated and nourished. Bring snacks like energy bars, nuts, and dried fruit during your hikes, and make sure to drink plenty of water.
  • Proper Footwear: Invest in a good pair of trekking boots that offer ankle support, grip, and comfort. Break them in during your training to avoid blisters on the trail.
