Day 2 – Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m) → Senaru Village (601 m) next Destination
Breakfast and lunch are provided on the mountain
- Your final trekking day begins high above the clouds at Plawangan Senaru Crater Rim, with panoramic views over the entire Rinjani caldera.
- From here, you’ll make a long descent through Senaru’s tropical rainforest, gradually returning to the green, humid lowlands.
- It’s a beautiful and peaceful way to close your Rinjani adventure — surrounded by jungle sounds, fresh air, and the scent of nature.
- 06:00 AM – Wake Up and Breakfast with a View
Wake up early to enjoy your last mountain morning at 2,641 meters. - Even though the sunrise view here is more limited compared to Sembalun, the scene over Segara Anak Lake and Mount Baru Jari is breathtaking, often glowing golden in the early light.
- Your porters will serve a warm breakfast — pancakes, toast, eggs, or noodles with coffee or tea — while you relax and take in the calm highland atmosphere.
- After breakfast, your guide will brief you about today’s descent route, estimated arrival time, and safety reminders for the steep jungle trail ahead.
07:00 AM – Begin Descent from Plawangan Senaru Crater Rim
- Start your descent toward Senaru Village.
- The first section drops steeply from the crater rim, following a narrow, rocky path that soon transitions into lush tropical forest.
- As you descend, the landscape changes dramatically — from dry volcanic ridges into a dense green canopy filled with giant trees, moss, and ferns.
- The air becomes more humid, and you may hear the sounds of birds, cicadas, and long-tailed macaques playing in the trees.
- The trail can be slippery in sections due to roots and fallen leaves, so trekking poles are recommended for balance.
- 10:30–11:00 AM – Lunch Break at Pos 1 (around 1,300 m)
- After 3–3.5 hours of steady descent, you’ll reach Pos 1 (Bunut Ngengkang) — a flat, open area shaded by tall trees, perfect for a relaxing break.
- Here, your porters will prepare your final mountain lunch, usually a simple and satisfying meal such as fried rice or noodles with vegetables and fresh fruit.
- Enjoy this peaceful moment surrounded by forest sounds while reflecting on the incredible journey you’ve completed.
12:30–01:30 PM – Arrive at Senaru Village (601 m)
- Congratulations — you’ve made it back to civilization!
- After descending through the forest trail for about 5–6 hours total, you’ll arrive at Senaru Village, marking the end of your 4-day Rinjani expedition.
- At the Green Rinjani office, you can shower, change clothes, and enjoy a cold drink before continuing your onward journey.
- Our driver will be ready to transfer you to your next destination — Senggigi, Kuta Lombok, the Gili Islands, Tetebatu, or Lombok International Airport.
- This is the perfect time to relax and reflect on one of the most remarkable trekking adventures in Indonesia — a journey of challenge, beauty, and personal achievement.

- This trek is classified as moderate, suitable for beginners or travelers with normal fitness.
- It involves 6–7 hours of uphill trekking through tropical forest on Day 1, and 5–6hours of descent back to Senaru Village on Day 2.
- There are no extreme climbs or summit attempts, making it ideal for first-time trekkers or families who want to enjoy the beauty of Mount Rinjani without pushing their limits.
Can beginners join this trek?

- It allows you to enjoy stunning crater views, mountain camping, and forest trails without the long summit climb.
- Even first-timers with moderate fitness can complete this trek safely with guidance from Green Rinjani’s experienced team.
Can we do the summit in 2 days via Senaru?
No, the summit cannot be reached from Senaru in two days.
The Senaru route reaches only the Plawangan Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m) — offering breathtaking views of Segara Anak Lake and Mount Rinjani’s peak in the distance.
To reach the summit (3,726 m), trekkers must start from Sembalun, as the route from Senaru to the top is much longer and physically demanding.
If you wish to climb the summit, we recommend the 2D1N Summit Trek via Sembalun or the 3D2N Sembalun–Torean program.
Do we go down to the lake (Segara Anak) on this trek?
No. The 2D1N Senaru Crater Rim trek does not go down to Segara Anak Lake.
You’ll stay and camp at the crater rim, which overlooks the lake from above — one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Lombok.
Descending to the lake and returning would require at least an additional full day.
If you wish to visit and relax at the lake and hot springs, we recommend the 3D2N Summit or 3D2N Senaru–Torean program, which includes the lake in the itinerary.
What altitude do we reach?
- Senaru Village: 601 m
- Senaru Crater Rim (Plawangan Senaru): 2,641 m
You’ll experience an elevation gain of about 2,040 meters on the first day, followed by a full descent on the second.
Can altitude sickness occur?
Rarely.
The highest point on this trek (2,641 m) is below the altitude where severe symptoms usually appear.
However, some trekkers may feel short of breath or mild fatigue during the climb.
To minimize discomfort:
- Walk slowly and take regular breaks
- Stay hydrated (at least 3 liters of water daily)
- Avoid alcohol before trekking
- Sleep well the night before
All Green Rinjani guides are trained in first aid and altitude awareness.
How much water is provided?
- Each trekker receives 3 liters of mineral water per day, carried by porters.
- Hot drinks such as tea, coffee, and hot chocolate are served during meals.

Mount Rinjani is one of the most iconic trekking destinations in the world. To protect the mountain’s natural beauty and ensure a safe experience, the National Park limits the number of climbers each day. This system is called the trekking quota, and it’s divided into two categories:
For Indonesian citizens or domestic trekkers, 160 slots are available daily. These are reserved for climbers registering independently at the Rinjani Trekking Centre in Senaru or Sembalun. Local quotas tend to fill quickly during busy periods, so early planning is still highly recommended.
For safety, stay in a group and follow your guide arrangement.
